I must admit I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to computer viruses. I analyze everything two or three times before opening or installing it. One of my favorite apps for this purpose is VirusTotal, an online website that scans files with more than 40 different antivirus engines. And the perfect complement for VirusTotal is VirusTotal Uploader.
With VirusTotal Uploader you can easily upload any file you want to scan to the VirusTotal website, directly from your Windows desktop. You can either choose a file among the currently active processes on your system – displayed on VirusTotal Uploader's interface – or browse the system until you locate the file.
VirusTotal Uploader looks for the correspondent hash on the VirusTotal website, analyzes the file and then shows the results on your web browser. The process hardly takes a couple of minutes.
The best thing about VirusTotal Uploader is that it's perfectly embedded with Windows Explorer, meaning you can scan files from the context menu – inside the 'Send to' menu. On the downside, you still depend on your web browser to check scan results.
VirusTotal Uploader is a handy tool that lets you take advantage of VirusTotal's powerful antivirus scan from your desktop.
